What's Included in a Bathroom Renovation

Cosmetic refresh

New vanity, fixtures, mirror, lighting, and paint without touching tile or layout. The quickest way to update a dated bathroom. Takes 3 to 7 days in most cases.

Mid-range renovation

New tile, new shower or tub surround, new vanity and fixtures, new flooring. Same layout. The most common bathroom renovation we do in Metro Detroit. Takes 2 to 4 weeks.

Full gut renovation

In-scope demolition, waterproofing, tile, cabinetry, and finishes. Electrical and plumbing work must be arranged independently. Best for bathrooms with water damage, poor layouts, or significant aging. Takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Bathroom Renovation Components

Tile

Floor tile, shower tile, and tub surrounds are the centerpiece of most bathroom renovations. We handle all tile work in-house. No separate tile contractor. Porcelain and ceramic are the most popular choices for durability and water resistance. Large-format tile is currently the most requested style in Metro Detroit master baths.

Shower

Walk-in shower conversions are one of the most requested bathroom projects we do. We build custom tile showers with proper waterproofing membranes, linear or center drains, and frameless glass enclosures. We also rebuild existing showers that are leaking or outdated.

Tub

Freestanding soaking tubs are popular in master baths. Standard alcove tubs work well in secondary bathrooms. We handle contracted surround and tile work; plumbing connections must be arranged independently.

Vanity & countertop

Single or double vanity replacement with your choice of countertop material. Quartz, marble, granite, or solid surface. We handle cabinetry and minor drywall work around the vanity; plumbing connections must be arranged independently.

Flooring

Tile is the most practical bathroom floor material. Heated floor systems (electric radiant heat) are an increasingly popular add-on. The cost to add in-floor heat during a tile install is far lower than retrofitting it later.

Bathroom Renovation Timeline

Consultation

We assess the space, discuss your goals and budget, and identify what's staying and what's going.

Design & selections

Tile, fixtures, vanity, and finishes are selected. A detailed scope and contract are finalized before demo.

Permits

Permit and inspection requirements vary by project and municipality. Confirm applicable requirements with your local building department before work begins; responsibilities must be clear in the written agreement.

Demo

Existing tile, fixtures, vanity, and flooring are removed. We check for water damage or mold before proceeding.

Waterproofing

Shower walls and floors are waterproofed before any tile goes down. This step is non-negotiable and often skipped by less experienced contractors. It's the reason showers fail.

Tile installation

Floor tile, shower tile, and any accent work.

Vanity, fixtures & glass

In-scope vanity and finish work is completed; plumbing and electrical connections are not included.

Finish work

Trim, paint, accessories, and mirrors are installed; electrical work is not included.

Final walkthrough

We go through the finished bathroom with you before considering the job complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

A cosmetic refresh takes less than a week. A mid-range renovation with new tile and shower takes 2 to 4 weeks. A full gut renovation takes 4 to 8 weeks. Frameless glass enclosures add 2 to 3 weeks to the timeline due to custom fabrication lead times.

Waterproofing. A shower that leaks behind the tile causes rot, mold, and structural damage, and it often isn't discovered until years later when the damage is extensive. We use proper waterproofing membranes on every shower we build.

Almost always yes, if you're already replacing the floor tile. The cost to add an electric radiant heat mat during a tile installation is modest, and it's a significant comfort upgrade in Michigan winters. Retrofitting heated floors after tile is installed requires tearing out the floor entirely.
