Hardscape Service
Custom paver patios designed and installed across Metro Detroit — engineered to handle Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles.
Home & Hardscape designs and installs custom paver patios for homeowners throughout Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Whether you're starting from scratch or replacing an old concrete slab, we handle the full project — design, grading, base prep, and installation.
A paver patio is an outdoor living surface built from individual interlocking units — concrete pavers, brick, or natural stone — set over a compacted gravel and sand base. Unlike poured concrete, pavers allow for drainage between joints, resist cracking in freeze-thaw climates like Michigan, and can be repaired one section at a time without replacing the whole surface.
Design Ideas
The right patio design depends on your yard size, how you use your outdoor space, and the style of your home.
The most common and work well in most yard sizes. Clean lines, easy to furnish, and straightforward to install.
Wrap around a corner of the house and create separate zones — one for dining, one for seating or a fire pit area.
Work well in larger yards and give a more natural, landscape-integrated look. They take more time to install but stand out.
Use retaining walls or steps to create tiered outdoor spaces — a good solution for sloped yards.
Pricing
Paver patio costs in Metro Detroit typically range from $15 to $35 per square foot installed, depending on the paver material, patio shape, and site conditions. A 400 square foot patio — a common size for a backyard dining area — runs between $6,000 and $14,000 in most cases.
Paver material — Concrete pavers are the most affordable; natural stone costs more.
Shape complexity — Straight edges cost less than curves or patterns.
Site prep — Sloped yards or areas with drainage issues add to base prep cost.
Demolition — Removing an existing concrete patio adds $1–3 per square foot.
Add-ons — Built-in fire pit, retaining walls, steps, and lighting increase total cost.

How We Build
A typical paver patio installation takes 2–5 days depending on size.
We meet at your home, measure the space, review your goals, and walk through material and layout options.
We dig down 6–8 inches to remove topsoil and create a stable foundation.
We compact a 4–6 inch layer of crushed gravel, then add a 1-inch sand bedding layer on top.
Pavers are set by hand in your chosen pattern and cut to fit edges.
Plastic or metal edge restraints lock the border. Polymeric sand is swept into joints and compacted to lock pavers in place and resist weeds.
We haul away all debris and walk the finished project with you before we leave.
Built For Michigan
Michigan's freeze-thaw cycle is hard on outdoor surfaces. Water gets into cracks in poured concrete, freezes, expands, and makes the damage worse every winter. Paver systems are built to flex — individual units can shift slightly without cracking, and the jointed surface allows water to drain rather than pool. When a section does settle or crack, we can lift and reset those specific pavers without touching the rest of the patio.
