Hardscape Service
Custom wood-burning and gas fire features that anchor outdoor living spaces across Metro Detroit.
Home & Hardscape designs and builds custom outdoor fire pits and fireplaces for homeowners throughout Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Whether you want a simple gathering spot or a full outdoor fireplace as the centerpiece of a patio, we build it to last through Michigan winters.
Fire pits are open on all sides, typically circular or square, and create a 360-degree gathering space. They're more casual, work well in the center of a patio, and are generally less expensive to build. Fire pits can be wood-burning or gas.
Outdoor fireplaces are built like a traditional indoor fireplace — one open face, a firebox, and a chimney. They direct heat outward toward a seating area, create a strong focal point, and feel more like an architectural feature than a campfire. Outdoor fireplaces are typically built into or against a wall, pergola, or outdoor kitchen structure.
Both extend your outdoor season well into fall in Metro Detroit and add long-term value to your home.
Fire Pits
Permanent fire pits constructed from natural stone, concrete block, or brick. Sized and shaped to fit your patio layout. Can be round, square, or rectangular. Most popular choice for homeowners who want a finished, integrated look.
Natural gas or propane fire pits with a burner insert and decorative fire glass or lava rock. No wood, no ash, no cleanup — just turn the key and you have a fire. Can be built into any stone or block surround. Requires a gas line run to the patio (we coordinate with a licensed plumber or gas contractor).
Traditional open fire pit for homeowners who want a real wood fire. We build the surround from stone, block, or brick with a proper hearth and ash cleanout. Check your local municipality — some Metro Detroit cities have restrictions on open burning.
We often integrate fire pits into a low seating wall that wraps around the pit, creating built-in seating and a defined gathering space on your patio.
Fireplaces
The most popular style in Metro Detroit. Natural or manufactured stone stacked around a prefabricated steel firebox and flue. Looks custom, performs reliably, and is less expensive than a fully masonry-built fireplace.
Built entirely from brick or stone with a custom-formed firebox and masonry flue. The most durable and highest-end option. Takes longer to build and costs more, but it's a permanent architectural feature that lasts generations.
Same look as a wood-burning outdoor fireplace but with a gas insert. Cleaner, easier to use, and no chimney cleaning required. A good choice if you want the look of an outdoor fireplace without the maintenance of wood.
