Hardscape Service
Paver extensions, parking pads, wider aprons, and turnarounds — built to match your home and hold up through Michigan winters.
Home & Hardscape designs and installs paver driveway extensions for homeowners throughout Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Whether you need more parking, a wider apron, a turnaround, or a parking pad for a boat or RV, we build paver extensions that match your existing driveway and hold up through Michigan winters.
A paver driveway extension adds usable paved area to your existing driveway using interlocking concrete pavers. Unlike poured concrete or asphalt, pavers handle Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking, drain naturally between joints, and can be repaired section by section if needed — without touching the rest of the driveway.
Even if your existing driveway is poured concrete or asphalt, a paver extension creates a clean, intentional look. The contrast between materials is a common and attractive design choice in Metro Detroit.
Project Types
One of the most common requests. We extend one or both sides of the driveway to create side-by-side parking. Width depends on your lot and local setback requirements.
A dedicated paved area off the side of the driveway for a third vehicle, boat, RV, or trailer. Built at the same grade as the driveway with a clean edge transition.
The apron is the section of driveway between the street and the sidewalk. Widening it makes pulling in and out easier and is one of the simpler extensions to build.
Extending the driveway to reach a side-entry garage or a detached garage at the rear of the property. Requires planning for grade changes and drainage.
Why Pavers
Michigan's freeze-thaw cycle is hard on poured concrete and asphalt. Water gets into cracks, freezes, expands, and makes the damage worse every winter. Paver systems are built differently — individual units can flex slightly without cracking, and the jointed surface allows water to drain rather than pool and undercut the base.
When a section settles, we can lift and reset those specific pavers without disturbing the rest of the driveway. That's not possible with concrete or asphalt.
Pavers also hold up under vehicle loads when properly installed on a compacted gravel base — the same base system we use on every extension we build.
If your existing driveway is already paver, we work to match the existing product as closely as possible in color, texture, and size. Exact matches aren't always available if the original product has been discontinued, but we bring samples to the site consultation so you can compare before committing.
If your existing driveway is concrete or asphalt, a paver extension creates a deliberate contrast that looks designed rather than patched. We use a clean border or edge detail to make the transition intentional.
How We Build
We assess your existing driveway, discuss the extension size and placement, and identify any grade or drainage considerations.
We check your municipality's requirements. Driveway work near the street or curb cut often requires a permit or right-of-way approval.
We mark the extension area and excavate to the correct depth for a proper base.
A compacted gravel base is installed to support the paver surface and provide drainage.
Pavers are set in your chosen pattern, cut to fit edges, and locked in with edge restraints and polymeric sand.
All debris is removed and we walk the finished project with you.
